Inside Tudor

A LEGACY BEGINS

The “TUDOR” trademark began in February, 1926, when the house of “Veuve de Philippe Hüther”, a watch dealer and maker, registered the trademark. TUDOR was originally established in Geneva for Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf. Ten years later, in 1936, the house transferred the brand to Wilsdorf. Following the Second World War, Hans Wilsdorf desired to evolve the brand and give it an identity of its own. On March 6, 1946, he created “Montres TUDOR S.A.”, a spectacular vision of innovation and design, with models crafted for both men and women. Rolex would guarantee the technical, aesthetic, and functional characteristics of the timepieces, along with the distribution and after-sales service.

hans wilsdorf’s intuition

"For some years now, I have been considering the idea of making a watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches, and yet one that would attain the standard of dependability for which Rolex is famous. I decided to form a separate company, with the object of making and marketing this new watch. It is called the TUDOR watch company."

- H. Wilsdorf

THE ART OF HAND CRAFTSMANSHIP

An intricate world of micro-precision lies within every TUDOR watch. Each component has been relentlessly tested to the most precise details to ensure nothing less than perfection. Study the movement. A subtle balance between aesthetics and performance is key. All of this innovation has led to the TUDOR watch, which has been handcrafted for resilience as much as style. This high-precision timepiece will endure everything life has to offer. The highest quality materials, unmatched resilience, and strength of design make each watch a true beauty to behold.

DAVID BECKHAM

David Beckham understands the importance of endurance and precision. When searching for a suave, yet durable timepiece, he chooses the Black Bay Chrono, a COSC-certified chronograph crafted with column-wheel manufacture caliber. This design draws inspiration from TUDOR’s roots in diving and motorsports. Beckham also favors the Black Bay Bronze, a 43-mm divers’ watch inspired by the brand’s storied history and fitted with the TUDOR Manufacture Caliber MT5601.

JAY CHOU

The art Jay Chou creates perfectly embodies the daring and innovative spirit that Chou is beloved for. Inspired by this fearless attitude, TUDOR released a short film in which Chou confidently drives a sports car on an historical oval racetrack in Montlhéry, France. Eventually, he speeds through the fabric of time, a stunning moment inspired by both Jay Chou’s work and classic time travel films of the 1980’s. The short film was brought to life by the idea of iconic images of the past continuing to impact watchmaking culture, music, and other art forms today. If you’re a fan of Chou’s work, you may recognize an homage to one of Chou’s earlier movies, in which he played a car enthusiast.
